USA win their second match against Japan

Beaten by Italy in their opener last Sunday, the United States was keen to recover. So for this second match of the World Cup, the Americans recovered and finally won with the bonus point (30-17), this Saturday in Whangarei (New Zealand), against the Japanese.

After a sluggish start to the match on the Japanese side and a first try scored by Megumi Abe (5-3), the United States managed to revive after returning from the locker room, thanks in particular to a try from hooker Joanna Kitlinski. Facing a weakened and tired Japanese, the Americans then dominated the game and scored three more tries by Alev Kelter, Elizabeth Cairns and winger Jennine Detiveaux in the second half.

We came here to perform today… The girls showed up and I’m really proud of them. They knew how important this second half was “, underlined the American captain Kate Zackary.

Thanks to this victory, the United States are still in contention to qualify for the quarter-finals of the World Cup. To do this, they will have to win their next match in Pool B, on October 23 against Canada.
