– Possible serial killer charged with three murders in California
A man suspected of shooting dead at least six people in Northern California was arrested over the weekend as he prepared to kill again.
“Lawsuits will change over time. It’s just going to take a little longer,” San Joaquin District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar told reporters, justifying her choice not to prosecute the 43-year-old man, suspected of being a serial killer. , for all murders.
“We are only four days away” since the arrest, she added. “We are waiting for additional evidence to be analyzed, which will most likely allow us (…) to add charges.”
The suspect, Wesley Brownlee, was arrested on Saturday in Stockton, a northern California town 130 kilometers from San Francisco, while he was “on the hunt” for a new victim, police say .
Investigators suspect him of killing five men in the same area of Stockton between July and September. They also believe him responsible for another murder committed in April 2021 in Oakland, near San Francisco, and for the attempted murder of a woman in this city. Several victims were homeless and the murders, committed late at night or at dawn, are all linked by ballistic elements, according to the police.
The investigation, which the FBI is participating in, is now trying to identify other California homicide cases that may bear the suspect’s mark.
Wesley Brownlee showed no emotion Tuesday before the judge responsible for reading his indictment, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. His motive remains unknown at this time. The 40-year-old is a truck driver, who moved to Stockton this summer, according to Tori Verber Salazar. He had previously had two narcotics convictions in the Oakland area, she added.
