United States: a mysterious virus kills dozens of dogs

More than 50 dogs have died in Michigan (USA) in recent weeks due to an illness that has not yet been identified.

Deaths still unexplained. For several weeks, more than fifty dogs have died in the United States, in the state of Michigan alone.

According to information from CNN, the animals, most of which were under the age of 2, showed symptoms of vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy and loss of appetite.

These symptoms can be caused by a contagious disease from the parvovirus family, which particularly affects young dogs. Tests were then carried out on the puppies.

While most were negative, other tests undertaken at Michigan State University’s veterinary diagnostic laboratory were positive.

Survival rates for parvovirus can approach 90% with proper treatment. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, it is very important to react as soon as the first symptoms appear.
