this is the best time to eat according to a study

Eating healthily and in a balanced way would not be enough to limit weight gain. Indeed, according to an American study, the time of meal intake would have an impact on the increase or decrease in body fat, as well as on weight loss.

Is time-restricted eating more effective than eating over a period of twelve hours or more for weight loss? This is the question that scientists from the University of Alabama in Birmingham (United States) have tried to answer.

As part of this randomized clinical trial spanning fourteen weeks, US researchers mobilized 90 adults with obesity, aged 25 to 75, before administering weight loss treatment. The latter involved an energy restriction or a controlled diet from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to the results published on August 8 in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, voluntarily depriving yourself of food for several hours in a row would be much more effective than eating over a period of 12 hours or more. In other words, to lose weight it would be better to eat from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Significant weight loss

If the fat loss was not obvious during the trial, the weight loss was revealing. Early diet with time restriction allowed those tested to lose weight over fourteen weeks: 6.3 kilos on average against 4 kilos for diet not subject to restriction.

In addition, the diastolic blood pressure – pressure during the relaxation phase of the heart – and the mood disturbances of the participants who ate from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. were undeniably improved.
