Do you want to adopt a pet? In October, give a second chance to dogs, cats and rodents who have been abandoned by their families. For a weekend, the SPA opens its doors to unclog its refuges.
Between May 1 and August 31, 2022, 16,457 animals were collected by the SPA, including 11,268 cats, 4,302 dogs, 851 rodents and reptiles, as well as 36 equines. Alarming figures which plunge the 63 shelters into an extremely difficult situation. Indeed, volunteers no longer have room for these little beasts cowardly abandoned by their owner.
As a result, to unclog its shelters and thus allow other animals to be accommodated while they find a loving family, the SPA will open its shelters to the public on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October. Objective ? “This festive and solidarity event will raise public awareness of the importance of welcoming an animal into a family, and that a large number of our left behind will come out of this weekend satisfied”explains Jacques-Charles Fombonne, president of the SPA.
A well-considered decision
In a press release, the Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) shared a simple and direct message to French people: “In October, a meeting will shake up your life!”. But beware, adopting an animal is not a trivial act. It must be a well-considered decision. To be sure of making the right choice, here are five questions to ask yourself before adopting a pet:
- Am I really ready?
- Am I allergic?
- Which animal to choose?
- Do I have enough space at home?
- Where to adopt?
As a reminder, since July 19, 2022, the “certificate of commitment and knowledge” is mandatory for purchasers of a pet as well as owners of equidae (horses, donkeys, etc.). To learn more about this official document, go right here.
