A school in Indre (Centre-Val de Loire) welcomed Asterix and Obelix, two ginger kittens adopted from a shelter!

The elementary school educational teamEguzon-Chantome is convinced of the benefits of animal mediation. After the success of their 3 hens and 2 rabbits in the playground, the teachers went a step further by inviting 2 kittens to walk inside the classrooms. An original initiative that already seems to be bearing fruit.

A school already adept at animal mediation

The school ofEguzon already had a few barnyard animals: 3 hens and 2 rabbits. The schoolchildren, in charge of feeding them and taking care of them, thus became more mature and responsible. The presence of animals also made it possible to appease the children and make them more empathetic.

Animal mediation is a process by which we try to promote children’s concentration, empathy when they are responsible for animals“, has explained Sophie Grenonthe principal of the school, France Blue. “They must also take care of their well-being. It’s not just going to throw a handful of seeds to the hens, it’s checking that everything is fine.

Faced with the success of this first experience, the educational team has therefore taken an additional step by welcoming 2 kittens. Asterix and Obelixwhose first names were chosen by the children, were adopted by the association Plush 36. The students’ parents obviously gave their consent, and only one child is allergic to cat hair. The felines therefore do not come to his class, but his classmates can go and see them during recess.

The presence of kittens allows children to develop many qualities

Since the arrival ofAsterix and Obelix, the children, like the teachers, are delighted. The presence of cats in class does not distract students. It is even quite the opposite that occurs. In the hope that the felines come to rest on them, the children keep the greatest calm.

The children show great seriousness and even maturity”, testified Sophie Grenon. “It’s really something that reveals certain behaviors. There are students who have difficulties in class, but who turn out to be very serious and diligent. […] It allows you to really work on human qualities and it’s something that is also important to develop and learn at school.
