Running with your dog: this club offers a new activity in the Cotentin!

Since October 17, 2022, a new association was born in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche) under the name “Cotentin Canisports”. It emanates from the “Canimordus”, and it is the first running club with his dog on the Cotentinaffiliated with the Federation of Canine Sports and Recreation (FSLC).

Its president, Florence Loret, and the twenty of its members invite amateurs to come and share their passion and their values, starting with respect for the dog.

The training sessions (5 or 10 km on average) take place on Wednesday evening and Saturday morning throughout the North Cotentin to vary the routes and the difficulties, with specifically trained instructors (BAF 1). Myself and Guillaume Lecardonnel. Two more will be trained by February 2023.

It was also the case, this Saturday, October 29, departing from the nature sports area of ​​the Saint-Gabriel moor. Several members were present with one or two dogs of totally different breeds and builds. For nearly an hour, they ran together at a relatively brisk pace. “You don’t have to be very fast, but you still have to know how to run a bit. The cani cross is less than 9 km, then we talk about cani trail (10 to 25 km). As for the dog, whatever its breed, it must be at least 12 months old. »

An original sport

The association, which offers recreational or competitive activitieshas the project of develop different disciplines like cani cross of course but also cani walk, cani nordic walking, cani mountain bike or cani scooter.

The benefits are multiple for the dog and his master. These are moments of happiness that we share. And in competition we have already had very good results. The Tamervillaise Christine Letoupin Puchala, with her Beauceron R’Mes, is Normandy champion in the UF2 category and French snow champion (UF2).

Florence Loret is vice-champion of Normandy in category UF2 with Shadow, his dachshund cross adopted by the Querquevillais association Loy Les Oubliés d’Yrladole. The next competition is scheduled for November 27 in Grimbost forest. “It is organized by the Cani Conquérants de Caen and several of our members will take part. »

The next regional championship will take place in January 2023 in Upper Normandy. Florence Loret, her treasurer Guillaume Lecardonnel and her secretary Vincent Travert will be happy to welcome new members.
