Almost 25 years after her death, a new book dedicated to Princess Diana is making explosive revelations. According Lee Sansum, his former bodyguard, Diana had planned to move to the United States, without his children. the DailyMail reports that a passage from the book titled Protecting Diana: A Bodyguard’s Story is devoted to the summer of 1997, during which Diana Spencer lost her life.
In July, the princes Harry and William are in Saint-Tropez with their mother and her companion, Dodi Al Fayed. According to the ex-bodyguard, Diana was about to make a radical decision: to announce to the press her imminent departure for the United States. “She said to me, ‘There’s nothing I can do in the UK. The papers over there attack me, no matter what I do. […] I want to go to the United States and live there so that I can escape. At least in America, they love me and will leave me alone,’” recalls Lee Sansum. According to DailyMailhe would then have asked Diana if her sons would join her, “to which she explained that she would never be allowed to remove them from their royal duties”: “I could probably only see them during school holidays”, would have answered Lady Diana to her bodyguard.

“You could say that Diana was a wonderful mother, so loving and attentive to her two boys, but […] she had to leave them both in the United Kingdom to escape the press, which stalked relentlessly every day of her life, believes Lee Sansum. […] It was also to free them from all the attention they received when she was with them. »
Finally, Diana never crossed the threshold of this announcement to the press. In the United Kingdom, these revelations feed all the speculations on what her life could have been if she had moved across the Atlantic before the accident which cost her her life, on August 31, 1997. The inevitable parallel with Meghan Markle and the prince harry is on everyone’s mind: the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have also chosen to leave to live in the United States to escape the harassment of the paparazzi.
Protecting Diana: A Bodyguard’s Story will be released on August 30 by Diversion Books.
