Poland beat Tunisia to join USA in World Cup quarter-finals

Poland, at home in Gliwice, unsurprisingly easily beat Tunisia 3-0 on Sunday to secure a quarter-final. The Poles, reigning double world champions, made their power speak (25-20, 25-15, 25-20), starting with those of Kamil Semeniuk (13 pts) and Jakub Kochanowski (4 aces), to dismiss the Tunisians, released for the first time in their history from the hens.

They will meet the United States on Thursday in Katowice, bronze medalists at the 2021 Olympics and World League finalists in July (beaten by France), in a revenge match for the group match of this World Cup (3-1 for Poland ).

The Americans were very hot against the Turks (25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 19-25, 15-12). While they were leading two sets to zero, they started to slow down at the end of the third round before being totally dominated in the fourth, under the onslaught of the sharp Adis Lagumdzija (31 pts in total).

Turkey, also coming out of the group stages of a World Cup for the first time, even led 11-10 in the tie-break before giving up. The United States were carried in this last set by their sharp star Matthew Anderson, author of five points including an ace.
