The Nigeria women’s under-17 team beat Chile tonight and qualified for the quarter-finals of the U17 Women’s World Cup in India.
The Flamingos are in the next round. After their 2-1 opening loss against Germany, Nigeria have been strong in their next two games. The Nigerians beat the New Zealand team (4-0). Tonight, they also sank the Chileans (2-1).
The Africans dominated today’s game with Blessing Ngozi Emmanuel scoring a brace in the 4th and 82nd minutes. Chile reduced the score in the 91st minute on a penalty, without affecting the outcome of the game.
Nigeria finished second in Group B with 6 points, ahead of Germany (9) and ahead of Chile (3) and New Zealand (0). The Flamingos will face the United States, winners of Group A, in the quarter-finals. The match takes place at the DY Patil stadium on Friday, October 21.
