Les Grandes Heures de Sceaux: tastings and workshops around coffee and chocolate

From October 7 to 9, 2022, the museum of the Departmental Domain of Sceaux invites chocolate and coffee lovers to enjoy tastings, workshops and conferences, on the occasion of its new edition of the Grandes Heures de Sceaux.

What’s better than a chocolate and coffee tasting in the middle of autumn for a heart-warming weekend? Within the Museum of the Departmental Domain of Sceauxdiscover the whole history of coffee and chocolate with your family, through a conferenceof the tastings and many workshopson the occasion of the 5th edition of the Great Hours of Seals. A dive into a gourmet universe, October 7 to 9, 2022.

The Department des Hauts-de-Seine invites for the occasion local craftsmen as well as historians, in order to evoke the history and the know how around chocolate and coffee, considered from the 17th century as rare exotic drinks in France. These foods and beverages begin to appear in the daily lives of the inhabitants at breakfast, and add sugar and milk, to make them sweeter. You can also listen to music by Bach and Bernier, influenced by the coffee craze.

Friday, October 7

  • Conference : History of chocolate flavors – from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Orangery

From the Aztec spice to the bar proud of its origin, the flavors of cocoa and chocolate delight gourmands and gourmets today. Tasting of hot chocolate with spices prepared according to the recipe of Madame de Sévigné, as it was tasted under the reign of Louis XIV.

  • Round table : Ethics and taste. Cocoa: the rebirth of a historic and exceptional product on the island of Haiti – from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. – Orangery

Presentation of the cocoa sector in Haiti supported by the international cooperation program of the Department of Hauts-de-Seine and chocolate tasting. The major issues of cocoa production will be addressed: from peasant reappropriation of cocoa cultivation to the role of fair trade in the revaluation of the sector in Haiti.

Saturday October 8

  • Tasting and sale of chocolate and coffee – d10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. – Castle

Several artisan chocolatiers will be present to make you discover their passion, taste their chocolates and sell their production.

  • Tasting workshop: from the bean to the bar – d10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Orangery

Come and discover the stages of creation of a chocolate bar from cocoa beans. The chocolate factory “A la Reine Astrid” will present the equipment used, the products obtained at each stage of the process as well as the typicality of Haitian cocoa during a final tasting.

  • Concert : Café Libertà – d8:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. – Orangery

Sunday October 9

  • Tasting and sale of chocolate and coffee – d10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. – Castle

Several artisan chocolatiers will be present to make you discover their passion, taste their chocolates and sell their production.

  • Workshop making beggars – in 10:45 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. – Orangery

With this workshop offered by the Chocolate Factory “À La Reine Astrid”, learn how to make your own beggars based on Haitian cocoa.

  • Tasting workshop: from the bean to the bar – at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. – Orangery

  • Animation “Aminata in the land of chocolate” – to 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. – Orangery

AVSF offers two workshops to raise awareness of sustainable food, playful and concrete, through the story of a little girl, Aminata, whose parents grow cocoa in Côte d’Ivoire. You can discover the stages of chocolate making and what family and peasant farming is all about while being invited to understand the issues of sustainable production and responsible consumption via fair trade in particular.
