The “Moustikat’s”, a young association in the south of Martinique, has decided to rescue wandering cats by organizing collections to feed and sterilize them. “Reducing the stray feline population is an approach consistent with animal welfare, while improving the living environment of citizens and protecting wildlife”.
It is not uncommon to come across in the street, in housing estates, near garbage cans or on beaches, stray cats in search of food. Since 1er July 2021, the “Moustikat’s” association created in the south of the island (in Marin), has set itself the goal of fighting against animal abuse in general and protecting in particular these wandering felines, often abandoned by their masters and not sterilized.
We don’t have a refuge, so we feed them in certain places, mainly at Le Marin and Sainte-Anne, while trying to remain discreet, because people might be more tempted to abandon them. However, the goal of our association is precisely to encourage owners not to leave them on the public highway, especially the females after a first litter. They must be sterilized at all costs (…). To achieve this objective, the association regularly organizes the capture and sterilization of unidentified stray cats, hence a first collection of donations, Saturday October 15, 2022, at the Acajou shopping center in Le Lamentin. Several customers offered food and accessories to support “Moustikat’s” volunteers.

Any unidentified cat found more than 200 meters from dwellings or any cat found more than 1,000 meters from its master’s home and which is not under his immediate supervision is considered to be in a state of wandering, as well as than any cat whose owner is not known and which is seized on the public highway or on the property of others.
During the year 2021, the first actions of the association “Moustikat’s”, allowed the sterilization of 78 cats.
In four years, a couple of cats can give birth to 20,000 kittens. It therefore seems urgent to us to continue our actions and to be able to do so more quickly.
The “Moustikat’s” association can be reached on social networks, Facebook and Instagram, if you wish to support it in this action of public utility.
