The Statue of Liberty or Liberty Enlightening the World, which sits at the entrance to New York Harbor, is one of the most famous monuments in the United States. It was sculpted by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904) and delivered to the Americans in 1886.

Nearly 30 years later, the Statue of Liberty of Saint-Étienne, a reduction of its monumental big sister, arrived in the capital of the Loire.

Marking American entry into World War I

The statue, also made by Bartholdi, has stood in the city for 1915.

First erected in Place Anatole France, it was transferred to Place Bizillon and then placed on the edge of the Grand’Ruelle. The statue has been in Place Jules-Ferry since 1952.

Made of meltingit measures 3m from above. The Statue of Liberty was inaugurated, according to some sources, on April 15, 1917, to mark the entry of the Americans into the First World War.

“Cast by the foundries of Val d’Osne (Paris), it was commissioned by the mayor at the time, Jean Neyret, for the sole purpose of adorning the city. On his tablet, we write: July 14, 1789 – July 14, 1915”, indicates Forez info.
