Boxes of tea recalled throughout France

A recall procedure was launched on Thursday for matcha tea sold throughout France on the shelves of Carrefour and Casino stores. In question: toxic substances present in too large quantities in this tea, reports Capital.

The recall concerns a THS brand 12x80g tin of powdered tea. A single lot, sold between March 1 and April 25, is covered by the procedure, according to the sheet published on Rappel Conso. The date of minimum durability of this tea is fixed at 25/11/2024.

Potentially carcinogenic substances

Tea, marketed by Casino, Carrefour and some traditional brands, contains toxic substances at levels above the health standard. These are benzo(a)pyrene and polycyclic hydrocarbons, two potentially carcinogenic substances according to the National Institute for Research and Safety (INRS), specifies CNews.

The recall process will end on October 17, 2022. Until then, consumers with a box of the affected lot are asked to destroy this tea or return the product to the store. A refund will be offered by the brands.
