This Wednesday a little before 8:30 p.m., around thirty men – some of them hooded – carried out what looks like an organized expedition against the Falstaff café located along the Bourse, in the center of Brussels.
The individuals seized the terrace furniture to smash the Art Deco windows of the establishment which dates from the first decade of the 20th century, creating panic on the pedestrian area before fleeing.
On the spot, it is the incomprehension. Servers struggle to recover from their emotions “I thought it was an attack. I immediately thought that one of them would have a gun. I left everything and ran to take refuge upstairs”, one of them confides to us.
Several witnesses tell us that a group of Anderlecht supporters would have come to fight with fans of the Young Boys of Bern who ate here. The two football teams face off on Thursday evening.
“They were quietly eating. They saw the group heading towards them. So they took refuge inside and closed the doors behind them. The attackers got stuck outside so they threw chairs against the window”, explains a witness to us. “It lasted two or three minutes not even”, adds his neighbor. “They even threw chairs from the terrace next door.”
Inside, a few people tried to retaliate by also throwing chairs.
The lightning attack did not cause any casualties, according to the first testimonies: “there is a person who was bleeding a little in the leg but that’s it.” The damage is considerable. One of the two main windows is in pieces. The other is partly destroyed. The sign was also damaged.
Following these facts, 23 Swiss were arrested.
