A 43-year-old man was arrested on Saturday by police in Stockton, United States, on suspicion of having committed six homicides which have rocked this central California town since last year.
Wesley Brownlee, 43, was taken into custody on Saturday morning after going “hunt” for another possible victim, local police chief Stanley McFadden said at a press conference.
“He was on a mission to kill,” he said the policeman.
“We are sure we have prevented another murder,” added the policeman, adding that the suspect was carrying a firearm when he was apprehended.
Determine the motive of the crimes
In April 2021, a man was put to death in Oakland, 80 km west of Stockton. Then, between July 8 and September 27, five other men were killed in a neighborhood of Stockton. These crimes were all committed in partly similar circumstances. Finally, a woman survived a gun attack believed to have been perpetrated by Wesley Brownlee. Investigators are still trying to determine a possible motive.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on Tuesday to be charged, local prosecutor Tori Verber Salazar said, adding that her office is reviewing the evidence to determine what charges will be brought against him. “This crime was solved because we are residents of Stockton. Because we do not come to us to reign this kind of terror”, declared the magistrate.
